Portuguese Settlement
Ujong Pasir, Melaka, Malaysia
You will be approached by different stalls, always go for stall no. 1. If you did not specify which one, you will not be able to change once you are seated. Do try out their white pepper crab, and not to forget fried cuttlefish. These hawker usually open in the evening, and there is a great sea view right in front.
Capital Satay Lok Lok
41, Lorong Bukit Cina, 75100 Melaka +60 6-283 5508
The locals name it satay celup whereby you dip your satays (meats in stick) in peanut gravy. Huge tiger prawns will be served at the end by the staffs. I must say they tasted delicious, cannot get enough of the peanut gravy. Only open from 5pm onwards, and need to queue at least half an hour or more if you are going on weekends.
Look at the tiger prawns! |
Jalan Merak, Taman Melaka Baru
75350 Melaka Malaysia
One of the best dim sums in Malacca according to my cousin. Well, we were not disappointed, and there are just too many dim sums for us to try.
Jonker 86
Jalan Hang Jebat
They are famous for their asam laksa which I did not get any chance to try. Tourists will always go for Jonker 88's durian chendol. However, having tried both, my personal choice will be of Jonker 86.
Jonker 88
Jalan Hang Jebat
Their version's of durian chendol is simply too much for me. Too many nuts, plums, and other ingredients that I don't think it blended well. Kind of overrated.
Hoe Kee Chicken Rice 和記雞粒飯
Jonker Street (next to San Shu Gong)
There are just too many chicken rice balls restaurants to choose from. You may choose from Chung Wah, Farmosa to Hoe Kee. All queues are equally long during peak periods. You might be served with normal rice instead of rice balls. My personal choice is Hoe Kee.
During weekends (peak period) |
Taman Melaka Baru, 75350 Batu Berendam
Another chicken rice balls recommended by cousin. Pretty cheap and is as good as those located at Jonker. We only paid for less than RM10.
Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine
75 Jalan Melaka Raya 24, Taman Melaka Raya +60 6 286 8819
Please try all the dishes if you can. The cook is the shop owner's wife who is a Nyonya, thus all dishes are simply delicious with original Nyonya flavours. This is a must try Nyonya restaurant if you visit to Malacca. You will certainly not regret and can thank me later.
Rice is refillable. |

Located next to one of the row of shop houses at Mahkota Parade Shopping Centre. The owner and also the chef was ex-Executive Chef for Melaka Renaissance Hotel. Well known for their ribs, it is quite packed. Be prepared for long queues.
Nadeje Cake House
G23 & 25 Jalan PM4, Plaza Mahkota. http://www.nadeje.com.my/
One does not simply leave Malacca without tasting Nadeje's mille crepe. It is located just opposite of Wok & Pan. However, the creamy crepe might be too much for some.
Air Kelapa Muda Batu Berendam / Coconut Shake Batu Berendam
A simple stall by the roadside with non-stop queues all day long. I totally cannot locate the road name, just google search for Taman Cergas, Batu Berendam. It is located near Q Homestay Malacca.
Be prepared to share tables with the others or you will have enjoy their coconut milkshake while standing. Go for their special with vanilla ice-cream, the best to enjoy on a hot day.
Restoran Tong Sheng 东昇園海鮮家
No. 378, Jln Melaka Raya 6, Taman Melaka Raya, 75000 Malacca

Ah Lang Bak Kut Teh 阿兰肉骨茶
No 70, Jalan Mutiara Melaka 2, Batu Berendam 75350 Malacca

Compared to Shun Fa Bah Kut Teh in Malacca (their branch at Taman Sentosa Johor Bahru are totally packed each time), the locals prefer Ah Lang. For more on bah kut tehs, please refer to my post here.
Jonker Walk Malacca
It is like the usual pasar malam, only
difference is there are stalls selling local delicacies. Note that they

Hard Rock Cafe Malacca
No.28 Lorong Hang Jebat 75200, Malacca
Food portion is extremely huge, I totally cannot finish my macaroni. Staff service is truly up to standard, they even offered to bring in hubby's steak for re-heating as he was away when they served it. Baby gets to play with crayons and we could enjoy our lunch without much disturbance.
Restism Cafe 小歇
Lot No.11, Jalan Ixora, Ixora Apartment, Bukit Beruang, 75450 Malacca
Their pudding bubble milk tea is not to be missed. They should open a branch in Singapore as everything was awesome from foods to ambience.

A restaurant serving local delights, do try out the laksa (quite spicy!), mee huen kuay, and char kway teow.
籠的傳人 Dragon-I Dataran Pahlawan

Dragon-I is just like Singapore's Crystal Jade or Din Tai Fung. Fried carrot cake, and fried onion cake are not to be missed.
